Let’s say an older diesel Pipeliner uses a gallon an hour in average use. At $4.00 a gallon, that’s $48 a day. The same welder running gasoline would probably consume about 1.5 gallons an hour under the same conditions. 1.5 X 12 = 18 gallons at say $3.75 = $67.50. The difference is about $20 a day. Let’s say you’re running it 300 days a year, so 300 X $20 = $6,000. AND let’s say you’re going to run this welder four years, so that’s $24,000 difference.

They find crazy and wild schemes to get noticed. (No, you don’t have to smash up your welding machine). The intensity of your practice and the number of joints you weld does make all the difference.
For open butt root passes, the factor that will kill a test is slipping and shooting wire thru the back again aspect. Some examination inspectors will fall short your check for that…and all it takes is one particular slip, so being rock constant is critical.
